2018 Backpack Challenge: Streetcar Hunt

Kansas City Chief star safety Eric Berry may be a beast on the field, but he also has a huge heart for his community. For the 2018 school year, his foundation wants to place 600 filled backpacks in the hands of those kids that need it most. Thus, the Eric Berry Foundation is challenging KC to a little scavenger hunt along the KC Streetcar to help do just that!

The 2018 KC Backpack Challenge is Eric’s twist on a scavenger hunt. During the challenge, participants will earn points and advance down the streetcar line as they answer trivia and complete other activities, using school supplies to get their clues at each stop. In the end, all school supplies will be donated to schools and families in need.

What is the KC Backpack Challenge powered by Eric Berry Foundation?

KC Backpack Challenge is Eric Berry’s twist on a scavenger hunt. During the challenge, participants will earn points and advance down the streetcar line as they answer trivia and complete other activities, using school supplies to get their clues at each stop. All school supplies will be donated to schools and families in need.

Who can participate?

Anyone of any age. Any combination of people. Kiddos under the age of 7 will not go towards your team number. It just needs to be a team of 2 or 4.

Can I sign up the day of?

Yes, but we are limiting the walk up number to 15 per check-in station. The cost will be $90 for a foursome and $60 for a twosome on day of.

Where do I check in at?

A few days before the event you will receive your top secret check in location called Check-in Station. We will also guide you on parking for that area. Consider parking at the Power and Light parking garages and take the KC Streetcar to your location. The finale party is at No Other Pub so you’ll be close when you are done!

What time do I check in?

Check in starts at 10:15am at your given Check-in Station. The first to check in are the first to receive their clue at 11am. As you check in we assign you your start time. We will send off three teams at a time to three different clue stations every five minutes. Sound confusing- don’t worry. We’ve got it figured out. Just be there when you are assigned.

What do I get at check-in?

Your team receives one bag of supplies and one lanyard. This lanyard is very important! It has a map with the perimeter of the challenge and areas that we will mark as you advance. It will also have your start time noted on it. You are limited 2 hours to complete the challenge.

How does the challenge work in this event?

Think twist on a scavenger hunt. During the challenge, participants will earn points and advance down the streetcar line as they answer trivia and complete other activities, using school supplies to get their clues at each stop. We provide you with the supplies at check-in and you barter them for clues. The clues will get you to the next clue station. Take on the extra challenges at the 12 clue stations to earn more points. The most points wins!

What is the GRAND PRIZE?

You will be personally escorted to Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp as a friend/family member of Eric Berry. You will enjoy VIP golf cart service to take us directly to the VIP tent. Feel free to walk around until after their morning session is complete and Eric Berry will come up to hang out for a bit. Feel free to take pictures and chat like friends!

How can I earn points before we even start?

Name your team some incredible name! (appropriate please) Dress your team up! We are awarding a few teams just for being such great participants!

I’m very competitive. How can I win this game?

Study up. Know your city and it’s local vendors. Take on the point challenges but remember you only have two hours to complete the entire thing. But be polite! We will eliminate any team that is rude or unruly towards others.

I’m not a downtowner so will I be lost?

Your lanyard will have the map of our perimeters. Clues will not be easy but we also want you to advance along the course. You can also use your phone for mapping. Relax and use those streetsmarts!

Can I use my phone for the challenges?

Yes and No. For trivia questions we will have a no phone policy. For mapping and random tasks we will allow it.

What kind of challenges are they?

Trivia. Physical. Team. Imagine “Minute to win it” combined with “Are you smarter than a fourth grader” combined with yard games combined with a clue hunt combined with geotracking (sort of).

Do I provide my own school supplies?

Nope! With your paid team entry you will receive a full set of supplies. You will use these to barter. So, yes, in a way we give you supplies and you give them back within a few hours.

What if I have to leave mid challenge?

We ask that you let a clue station know so we are not worried about you. We also ask that you donate the rest of the supplies.

What if I want to participate for a few clue stations and then would like to adjourn myself to No Other Pub to wait on the rest of the participants?

No problem! Doors are open at noon with food and drink specials, raffle items to win, and your swag bag. Come and enjoy those items!

Are there restrooms along the course?

Yes. Certain clue stations have access to public bathrooms.

Will Eric Berry be there?

We will keep that a mystery.

What is in my swag bag?

Some serious swag!! You will receive this at No Other Pub when you complete the challenge. An exclusive glass with artwork of Eric Berry from artist Scribe, two free raffle tickets, and more! Plus as you are gathering clues the participating clue destinations will gift you with coupons and other fun enticing items. The list keeps growing!
